Le nitrure de bore hexagonal est insoluble dans l'eau froide. Lorsque l'eau est bouillie, elle s'hydrolyse très lentement et produit une petite quantité d'acide borique et d'ammoniac. Il ne réagit pas avec l'acide faible et la base forte à température ambiante et est légèrement soluble dans l'acide chaud. Il a une résistance considérable à la corrosion par divers acides inorganiques, bases, solutions salines et solvants organiques.
